5 Things to do on a Lazy Sunday with the Kids

With the weather becoming cooler here in Australia I’m sure we’ll be spending more Sundays at home, today being Sunday I just want to catch up on the housework and blog but the kids are in fine form…

So today, I sat down with the kids and we came up with 5 super ideas to keep them busy on a lazy Sunday, they weren’t too keen on number 5.

One: Kitchen Fun

Pancakes

Simple pancakes are my go to when the kids want to make something quick, easy and yummy. All you need is 1 cup of flour; 1 cup of milk and 1 egg- add choc chips for a nice chocolaty surprise.

Chocolate Chip Biscuits

  • 125g butter

  • ½ cup Soft Brown Sugar (lightly packed)

  • ½ cup Caster Sugar

  • ½ tsp vanilla essence

  • 1 egg

  • 1¾ cups self-raising flour

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ cup chocolate chunks or chips

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C or 160ºC fan forced

  2. Grease or line two baking trays with baking paper

  3. Beat butter, Soft Brown Sugar, Caster Sugar and vanilla until pale and creamy

  4. Add egg and beat until mixed

  5. Sift in flour and salt, mix until combined before stirring in the chocolate chunks or chips

  6. Roll heaped teaspoon sized balls of mixture and place on tray, press down lightly with a floured fork.

  7. Bake for approx. 12 minutes.

Tip: Substitute chocolate with Smarties, M&Ms or chopped nuts.

No cook play dough

  • 2 cup plain flour

  • 1 cup salt

  • 1 tbs oil

  • 1 cup cold water

  • 2 drops liquid food colouring

  1. Combine plain flour and salt

  2. Add water, food colouring and oil. Mix until ingredients are combined.

  3. Knead well.

  4. If consistency is too wet add a little plain flour.

Two: Beauty Salon at home

Get out the hair brushes, hair ties, clips, spray bottle, nail file, and nail polish, make up, moisturiser etc. and set up your own beauty salon for the kids to have fun and glam up. Check out our kid friendly make up in our Quirky & Quaint store.

Three: Arts & Crafts

Find boxes, old magazines, patty pans and anything else the kids can stick, paste and create with.

Four: Build a fort

This can be easily done with the dining table, sheets pillow, the kids will have a great time making and decorating their own fort.

Five: Cleaning

This was my idea, kids screwed up their nose at this one but it is a great idea- find 3 boxes or bags: 1 for keeping, 1 for donate, one for throw away. Pick one of the kids rooms and make it a game, before you know it, their rooms will be clean and decluttered.
