Ready for This: Indigenous Australian Drama Series for Teens

Ready for This is an Australian teen drama which follows 5 indigenous teenagers that travel to Sydney. They’re all staying in a shared house called Arcadia House while studying and chasing their dreams in sport or music:

Ava: is quiet and reserved, she has travelled to Sydney to study music. She is an amazing singer but is struggling with stage fright

Zoe: is a confident teen but when she comes to the big city she is faced with challenges, thinking she would fit in right away at school being a talented sprinter, she learns about herself and her limits.

Levi: A very promising AFL player, the jock of the group with a big heart and learning to grow up and work hard

Dylan: Is trying find his own identity and follow his passion, not what his father wants him to be or do

Lily: Is the outsider, the tough girl with something to hide. She’s running to find something that is gone, she feels that she’s lost a part of herself and is on a journey to discover what that missing piece is.

Ready for This takes you on the ride, watching these teens overcome obstacles, what it means to be your own person, the true meaning of family and friendship. With a tiny bit of Romeo & Juliet thrown in...

The thing I noticed was the difference between the teen girls and boys, the boys seem to fit into their new schools so easily while the girls struggle. But they evened this out with the introduction of the character Reece.

Reece: the fun and loveable one, but just doesn't seem to fit in at school. He's trying to find his place and discovers family isn't always where the home is

Ready for This comes from the producers of Dance Academy and Redfern; once again they got it right and created an amazing teen drama that teens can relate to and learn from.
Most drama series on Australian television don’t cover aspects of teen life, Ready for This covers many different topics that don't just affect indigenous teenagers but issues that all teens face growing up, such as family issues, finding yourself, your strengths and most importantly friendships.
I really enjoyed the series Ready for This, it had great humour and heart: all things that make an amazing Teen Drama without being cheesy.
If you liked Dance Academy you’ll love Ready for This!
