As a parent learning about how technology works in education and ways we can use our device more than just entertainment, I come across acronyms often. When I talking to another mummy friend the other day I mentioned the word STEM which she didn’t know what it stands for. So today’s blog post will be explaining what STEM stands for and what it is.
STEM stands for:
Science
Technology
Engineering
Math education
Yes these all are being taught in schools but STEM based curriculums don’t teach them separate but integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.
STEM in schools is important for all students to succeed in this modern world
Why is STEM So Important?
In an innovation-driven economy that we live in today, it’s important we equipped students with the skills and experiences that will prepare them for the future where STEM jobs are growing and is a main source of economy growth for countries.
STEM related jobs have grown over the years; STEM needs to be available to all students, our children need to be equipped and prepared to continue higher education STEM programs which just isn’t hitting the mark currently in Australia and many other countries.

Australia has noticed the need for STEM education improvement and is taking steps in the right direction. The government has noticed that students are not graduating from schools equipped or prepared to continue higher education STEM to enter the STEM workforce.
STEM job growth and current openings are much higher than people that can fill them
I’m looking forward to learning and sharing what I discover regarding STEM and what our schools and government are doing to encourage STEM programs to ensure we stay on track with the rest of the world.
The evidence is that STEM fields are the fastest growing and highest wage fields
The video below is from The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and explains STEM teaching perfectly:
