What does your evening Routine look like? Our school nights look differently then Weekends depending on what was happening on that day.
I enjoy reading about other people’s routines to see what works for them- it has really helped to set up my own routines for our household.
Our evening routine starts as soon as dinner is done; we have quite an early dinner around 4-4:30pm! I’ve been told this is way too early but it works for our family.
What time is dinner time at your place?
Kidz B Kool Basic Evening Routine
Eat dinner as a family- no electronics at the dining table, TV off. Our house is open plan so the kitchen, dining room and living room is basically in one, I really dislike the layout- having a separate dining and living room would be so good.
After dinner- Everyone helps to clear the table, Monster- Dad does the dishes (yep trained this one well). Then the kids normally spend time outside, especially since the weather has been so lovely lately. I normally use this time to relax, tidy up the lounge room or fold the never ending mount washmore!
Bath time- I get the girls (3 & 4) ready for their bath- K- Monster (10) normally has his shower when he gets home from school and changes out of his school clothes, so while I’m upstairs with the girls, Monster- Dad helps K- Monster with his weekly words from school.
After Bath- Girls get dressed in their pyjamas and now its wind down time. Normally quiet drawing, watching or playing with toys. Please note: this time is rarely quiet!
At 7pm- The time I’ve been waiting for all afternoon! It’s time for the kids to brush their teeth and head to their rooms to read, K- Monster reads his daily reader from school to the girls while I’m there to help with any words he has trouble with. K- Monster really enjoys this time and it’s great for him to read out loud. I make sure the girls have everything they need to reduce the times they come downstairs.
7:30pm- Lights Out! And 3 out of 7 nights the girls will go to sleep no problems, the other nights it’s a lot of up and down the stairs. In my opinion that’s not too bad, it could be worse. K- Monster is normally snoring by 8pm
This is just a basic outline, things happen, schedules change and we just go with the flow but it helps to have a routine and having it so it can be changed easily.
Do you have a evening routine? If not, why not? Comment below, I would really like to know :)
